The Power of Portions with Sarah Crock, RDN, LD on Saturday, July 25, 2015

In my opinion, there are really two steps to eating for sustainable health. Step one: eat healthy food.  Step two: eat the right amount of said healthy food.  While most of us have a pretty good grasp on step one, step two is where many of us may struggle.  That’s right – I’m talking about portion sizes. While virtually any food can fit into a healthy lifestyle, moderation is key.  By working to balance the frequency of our healthy and not-so-healthy choices and their amounts, you can have your cake, both literally and figuratively, and eat it, too (because life’s too short to never eat cake, right?). Gym Member Potluck

In June, 2015, we enjoyed a relaxing evening, sharing food and stories at the lovely home of Cindy and Glen. Thank you for your hospitality and thank you to all who joined us.


10,000 Swings

From Jan. - June, 2105, we tracked the number of swings completed in the gym and at home/on-the-road. This was a non-competitive, fun, way to commit to fitting in plenty of quality movement and conditioning. We did 100-500 swings per class. Read the blog post about our swing challenge.

RKC Kettlebell Certification by Dragon Door, April 10-12, 2015

Master RKC Andrea DuCane and RKC Team Leader Lori Crock hosted a 3-day hardstyle kettlebell RKC certification  event on Friday, Saturday and Sunday April 10-11-12. Please contact Lori for for more information and preparation assistance for future RKC kettlebell certifications.


Myofascial Release with Eric Schmelzer

MSK gym member and massage therapist Eric Schmelzer specializes in neuromuscular therapy and myofascial release. He presented interesting strategies for mobilizing fascia in March of 2105.


Sugar Detox

We had a great experience doing a 21-day Sugar Detox together in Jan. and Feb., 2105. Here is some direct feedback from participants:

  • Better sleep and more energized. No headaches in the morning.
  • Improved energy levels throughout the day Improved ability to go longer without eating in between meals Less desire to go out to eat...thus probably saving money in the long run.
  • Clean eating makes for clear thinking!
  • I lost 6 pounds in 3 weeks. I accomplished this in a healthy way through exercise and a revised diet, without starving myself.
  • Less alcohol, fewer desserts. More cooking and planning ahead.
  • I lost 10 lbs and I'm more conscious of what's in the food I'm eating.

HKC Kettlebell Certification

We hosted 13 athletes who received the HKC through Dragon Door on Oct. 25, 2014. Read my blog post about the event.


Nature Runs with Lori

We enjoyed Nature Runs during the summer of 2014. These events included light running mixed with various movement skills along the way such as jumping, climbing and balancing. It was a great way to enjoy nature and challenge the nervous system in a different way.


The Real Costa Rica with Jorge and Stephanie

We learned about how to travel to and enjoy the natural Costa Rica and visit Pura Vida House.


Intro to Kettlebells at Athleta - Easton Town Center

We offered beginner kettlebell classes on Thursday mornings at Athleta in July, 2014.


Understanding Fascia with Melinda Cooksey, MS, PhD

This was a great interactive overview of fascial release with Dr. Cooksey at our former studio in the summer of 2014.

MovNat Level 1 Trainer Certification and Workshop
 

This was a MovNat level 1 trainer certification and workshop held at our former gym location, and also in area parks, in June, 2014.


Olympic Lift Workshop with Drew Dillon

We learned the Barbell Clean and Snatch with the guidance of Drew Dillon from the Columbus Weightlifting Club in May, 2014.


Paddleboarding Demo with Terry Butterworth

We all gave it a try at Riverpark in Dublin in May, 2104. Thanks Terry for your teaching and allowing us to use your paddleboard.
